Smile MCD Retro Install

Today we had MCD Duos window shades installed in our 2002 DP. We replaced those cumbersome day/night shades. No more restringing! We had been sitting on the sidelines to do this; and now we wonder why we waited so long. They make the coach interior look so much better. The sun shade lets light in but keeps the heat out. The best part is the night shade actually keeps the coach interior dark, for better sleeping.

We are glad we had Steve Smith of Tropic Shield in San Diego install our new shades. He was very professional and meticulous in his modifications of the Valances and the Lambrequins to accommodate the new MCD Window shades!

Very nice! We love our MCDs, too, and wonder how we ever stayed sane with the former day/night things in our former rig . . . .

Hmmm, maybe we are not sane!

Thanks for posting this, Al. And glad to hear that you're happy with your new upgrade! The MCD shades sure are a really nice product!

You mentioned modifications to the valances/lambrequins to accommodate the new shades. Would you mind elaborating a bit on what changes needed to be made to fit the new shades? We're considering an upgrade to MCD's, but will probably do it ourselves, so I'm curious what amount of modifications we should be planning for.

Thanks again! And enjoy!

Before you install the MCD, take a look at the AutoMotion shades. We had a coach full of MCD until they started breaking and no repair available other than replacement which was going to be expensive.

We replaced all of them with AutoMotion and are much happier. They have a more robust roller mechanism and hold up much better than MCD .Automotionshade - Product

Steve had to carefully trim away part of the wood on the legs of theValances. He did a great job of not weakening the structure and hiding those cuts so you can not see them. Also, he had to add fabric piping material to give more depth to facilitate the MCD rolls. He matched the colors perfectly and attached the piping such that it looks like it was always part of the valances. It took time and effort, and he did an excellent job all around! Well worth the call.

Thanks for the details, Al. Would love to see photos of the install if you have them. Sounds like Steve did a really great job!
