MCD shade failure

My mcd shade failed this morning. When I got up the driver shade was completely unwound. Had to remove the whole works. Will not retract, or stay on one spot. Any idea what went wrong.

The internal wind up spring mechanism may have broken. Call MCD tech support they will talk you through this or send you new parts. 800.804.1757

If you go to their website, you can log in and submit a trouble ticket describing the problem. They will respond promptly with your repair options.

I bought my MCD shades in 2008. I have had two manual shades fail, both as I pulled them down ...the spring mechanism broke and they would not roll up. The first I shipped back to MCD, the second I dropped off last week and picked up two days later on my return trip. Both times, they did what they called a "Gen III to Gen IV" conversion. This time I had the choice of them sending me a new spring for $30 plus shipping, or having them do the conversion for $50 plus shipping. Since I was going that way last week to visit family, I did the $50 version.
