Your traffic experience sounded abysmal, except that you had all of your facilities with you
what was your'e cruise speed? I cruised at 65 70 some cruise control and some on the pedal.

My 99 Discovery ISB average over 47,072 miles is 10.230 MPG
Weight around 26,300 with HHR toad.
All gal bought & miles keep on a spreadsheet.
Generator is LP so all diesel fuel goes to the engine.

We averaged 65 but often went higher. We were strictly on I-75 from Michigan to Naples, Florida and back again. We started off trying to do 62 but felt we were being left behind. No more peer pressure though - we are going to try 60-62 on the next trip. What will be interesting is to see if mileage goes down. We haven't figured out her sweet spot yet.

I run 58 to 65 miles per hour and most often mpg is between 7 and 8. I did get a 9.3 last trip followed by 7.9 but that is not the norm. I figure the fuel expense is simply part of the entertainment expense (but not happy to see those entertainment expenses going up when I'm doing the same old thing)

Okay lets do the math:

1300 miles (gen use) / 65 mph = 20 hrs.

If you burn .5gph (gen) = 10 gals of fuel

2620 miles / 7.36 = 355.9 gals. of fuel - 10 gals. (gen) = 345.9 gals.

2620 / 345.9 gals. = 7.57 miles to gals. if you did not run your generator.

I just returned to Reno, NV from picking up a used 2000 Fleetwood Discovery 37V. My fuel on the entire trip averaged 8.8 MPG including when I ran the generator, which was about 1/3 of the time. I took the coach on another trip to Las Vegas and back, about 1000 miles, after I had had some maintenance work done and got 9.0 MPG. Both these trips were with a Jeep Grand Cherokee on the back.

What engine do you have and how much does your RV weight more or less , and at what speed did you cruise?

I do not know exactly what HP engine that I have. It's a Cummins 5.9 diesel. On my cross-country trip, I was careful not to drive above 55 MPH. On my trip to Vegas, I drove 65 most of the way.
