My automatic awning seems possessed!
Any ideas what would cause my automatic AE awning to retract in the middle of the night without cause? Has happened twice over the past month. Calm winds, etc. Very weird! If a large bird landed and perched on the end?

Maybe a bad connection in the wires to the wind sensor? Or the sensor itself is failing? Find the sensor and wiggle the wires while the awning is extended, but be careful as it may suddenly retract! Good Luck.

My first guess would be the wind sensor as well. Find your control box, and shut the wind sensor off, and see if that makes a difference.

Mine used to close with no wind, and stay open in winds. Finally disconnected wind sensor. Manual is best.

Thanks folks. Had bumped up the wind speed as much as possible to prevent retraction in lower wind speeds but will disconnect wind sensor as we almost always retract manually and really don't need the wind sensor. Actually wish we could replace with automatic with the old manual style awning as it makes it much easier to hang lights, etc etc.

I'm with you there! Thinking of disconnecting our wind sensor too. Need to get those grape leaves and grapes hung up again! Also miss the lowering one side to let rain run off one end or the other.
