My Buddy Lost His RV to Fridge Fire

One of my work buddies who recently retired lost his motorhome to fire this morning. Inspector said it started in the fridge and queried him on whether recalls were done. He and wife are OK and he now needs to see where insurance goes. He had no idea that this could happen. Not sure he will start over again. sorry it is sideways but can't seem to fix it.

Glad everyone is okay, and it's just stuff, although emotionally terrifying! Do you know what type of fridge it was? Also, age, make model of motor home?

Always sad to see this, ours is not on the recall list but I did just install an ARP controller on it last week.

Info

Don't have the details. He is away at his NC home and I did not want to prolong the discussion. Figured he had enough to think about.

3 weeks ago at the season opener in Chandler, AZ, one of my friends camped near us had the same thing happen. He was fortunate that he caught it in time, but there were flames already inside the walls. He is a fireman and was able to extinguish it before it spread. We were inside our RV, and didn't even know he was having an emergency. Very lucky indeed. Sorry your friend wasn't so lucky.

X2 on the APR. I installed that last year as well as a fire suppression system in the engine compartment. I don't really care too much if the coach get burned down but I'd really like the DW and I to get out first.

It's always sad to see this sort of thing. At least they are alright.

Glad to see no one was hurt. Fire is not a good thing in a RV. Very lucky he was away.

Thank you for posting this. My fridge is on the list. We are using it but I'll shut it off while sleeping. Look to get it fixed in Vegas.

What is the ARP controller? Is it a sensor?

Sounds like the multiple recalls were not performed. The "box" shut the frig down if it detects overheating. The ARP website
also shuts the frig down, then allows it to re-start when cooled down from the over-heat condition.

How many of you have installed the ARP module? Does it add a lot of 12v draw while boondocking? Mine is in the slide with side vent and ARP suggests dual fans so that would be a total of three with the stock fan running. Also how much noise is added by the fans?
