The first time we had (stupidly) slept with the generator on. The alarm went off the next morning. I grabbed the manual, silenced the alarm, cut off the generator, checked the pets (fine), and then it went off again. This time after we cut it off it stayed off. We hightailed it home.

The second time was today. We had switched from shore power to generator for the last couple hours because it looked like rain and we didn't want to be rolling up electrical wires in the rain. Then right when we were pulling out the alarm went off. Now I wonder if all that opening and closing of the doors (put trash out, take dog out, gear in & out of basement, get the chocks) as I got us ready to go let some CO in? We silenced the alarm, turned off the generator, opened windows & vents & fans, and it went off again. I was really worried about the pets in the heat, CO aside.

I doubt the detector is bad; after all, there was generator in use each time. The manual says get checked by qualified repair technician. What, just any RV repair place?

Will appreciate any tips from you experienced folks out there.

What is the replacement date on detector? Most only last 5 years then replace.

You can get a new detector at Walmart/Lowes/HomeDepot for about $30. Wouldn't hurt to have 2 (your original plus new one) and make a comparison. Temporarily, you could put a new one right next to the old one.

I'd also add a short extension to your pipe ... about $8 at auto stores. Don't get a long one ... just enough to extend the pipe a few more inches.
