Need advice on taking burden off kids
I'm a solo full timer wanting to limit problems for my kids who live in central Texas in the event of my death. Every year I travel back to Austin to spend the Christmas season with kids and grandkids but head out for an 11 month tour of the western U.S. I am concerned that, in the event of my death or incapacity, one of them would have to collect my RV and tow car and, most likely, sell them.
Good Sam has a program to return your vehicles to a home address but my objective might be to have them delivered to a dealership for sale. In that event, I would like advice on the best location to have them delivered from a marketing standpoint; San Antonio? Phoenix? .... Perhaps, their best option would be to store it near them and sell directly online.
I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks

Put it in your trust, leave contact information in your wallet and let the kids worry about it.
Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it. Go enjoy yourself and let the kids deal with it.

I would think having it delivered to some dealer several states away would create a bigger headache for your kids. Why would you think you could trust a sales person you never met and knows you're dead or incapacitated?
If you think it might be too much for the kids, gift it to a charity upon your demise. You won't be needing it.

What do your kids want? ASK THEM not us. Don’t make decisions FOR them when you can make them WITH them.
They might surprise you and want to have your rig as a legacy to you. If not they’ll likely have some ideas on how they’d like to handle things

I agree with Tip10. Talk to your kids about the matter.
Do you have a trust written and, if so, the executor needs to know all the details.

My Mom & Dad did not have a will but knew they needed one. My Dad asked me for advise and I got one line and drafted on following basic formats. I did my due diligence to make sure it was legal in the state they lived. I included the necessary information to make sure it was signed and witnessed by a notary.
My Dad elected to make his oldest son executor with a $ amount plus expenses.
All assets were to be liquidated and split equally between all the children.
With everything in writing there was no real bickering between all the kids.
I'd suggest you look at doing the same thing.

I am going through something similar with my 88 year old mother. My parents have a trust and we’re currently putting her house into it (purchased after dad passed and bought a home near me). On the other hand my brother just passed (too soon) he did not have a will or a trust. His kids are clueless and struggling with probate, his possessions and the like. At the VERY least put your wishes in writing!
Talk to your children first. It’s a awkward conversation for some but in the end it’s the most thoughtful thing you could do.
Talk to the Good Sam people too. Even if they just delivered your rig to a RV park close to one of your children until they decide (provide some funding for rent) that to me would be of great help. Grieving is a horrible time even if you THINK your prepared.
You might be surprised if one of your children has a quietly been thinking of having your rig to live the lifestyle. To make it fair they’d be the one to go a fetch it, take care of it ect...that way they’d kind of earn it. Talk to your kids first.
Best wishes.
