I replaced my two 12 volt batteries with two 6 volt golf cart batteries. I wired the two 6 volt batteries negative to positive on one side and chassis negative and positive on the other side. There were three wires on the old 12 volt batteries. One was on the negative post, two were on a positive post. I hooked those up to the positive and negative side of the new batteries. Is that ok? My lights flickered while running the generator later. I'm wondering if I did it wrong. Thanks to all in advance for any help. Haven't been on here in a while. It's good to be back!

Hook main chassis pos to pos on one 6 volt. Then hook main chassis neg to neg on the other 6 volt. Then take a cable and hook from pos on one batt to neg on the other batt. Then hang extra cable you did not use in the garage.

Great response to Devil Dog, and funny - loved it!

Thanks for the quick response. That's what I like about this forum. I did exactly what you said. I think my main question was about the three smaller wires that were on the positive and negative posts on the old 12V batteries. I hooked them on the new batteries on the negative and positive like the old ones. It seems wrong because the negative and positive on the new ones are hooked together now. Wouldn't that be hooking the smaller wires to a positive and negative at the same time essentially? One the old one they were on only one post. Now, by virtue of wiring the batteries together they are hooked to bot + and -. Just didn't seem like the right thing to do.

Again, thanks for the responses. I still have the question about the connection of the smaller wires from the old batteries.

Devil Dog: Your 2 12 volt batteries in parallel provided 12 volts between any negative terminal and any positive terminal.
With 2 6 volt batteries in series, you have a positive and negative post connected together so the battery voltage adds to 12 volts. Nothing else connects to those two posts except that jumper cable.
Any loads (wires)should be connected ONLY to the terminals (posts) that are not connected together. Still pos to pos & neg to neg.
Should look exactly like becks description above..
Hope this helps.....

Devildog, hook the small pos wires to the pos terminal of the 6v battery on the right of the diagram. Hook the small wire that was on the neg terminal to the neg post of the 6v battery on the left side of the diagram.
