Hello all, we are looking to update our 03 Class C Winnie to a newer unit. I want to avoid some of the construction issues our current unit has. Delamination !! The wood backing that the filon is bonded to is very unforgiving once water get behind it. I know prevention is the key, but H2O happens!!! I am told by salesman that the new type of wall construction eliminates the wood. Is this true? What is it called? When did they start using it? What manufacturs use it? We can't afford a new unit, but would like to find a unit with the best construction for the buck. I haven't had any luck searching the web. Any help is greatly appreciates. Thank you in advance for your input.

It doesn't matter how the wall is built when the roof or windows leak. Delamination is not caused by the wall but what is protecting the top/ends of that wall as well as adequate sealing around the windows.

Our 2013 Coachmen SportsCoach doesn't use wood in the sidewall construction. Supposedly impervious to water penetration...

Are you upgrading to another Class C, or moving to an A? Your post wasn't clear.

Newmar coaches are built with what they call "hung walls". This is a process just like building a house. Aluminum studs support an outer wall and an inner wall. The inner space is filled with insulation. It can't delaminate because there's nothing laminated in the first place. They've been doing this for many years because its the best way to do it, even though its more labor intensive. As far as I know, the only other manufacturer using this method is Entegra. (When they started a few years ago Entegra hired a few mfg managers away from Newmar.) Its also, IMO, a stronger structure, and I can tell you, my coach is very comfortable because its so well insulated-- cold weather or hot, doesn't matter.

I understand that keeping the seals up is obviously important, I try to keep it up regularly. South Florida weather is tough on these things. I have been chasing leaks for a while now. The luan is what I want to avoid with my next class C. Thank you ..
