Any old-timeers' advice about replacing air in the tires with nitrogen? I've heard it's better for a cooler tire, no leaks, and no rust on the inside of the wheel from condensation. But, is is worth the cost, etc?

N2 in tires benefits the seller much more than the buyer. Ranks with paint sealants and fabric protectors.

Thanks, Tom. I kind of figured it to be a "bragging rights" issue as much as anything. But then if NASCAR uses it in it's race cars why not in our slow RVs!?
BTW, any significance to your national map being a reversed image - west is east and east is west?

Basic air is somethhing like 80% nitrogen so unless you are going to have your tires purged of ALL air everytime you add air for whatever reason the odds are that you won't have true nitrogen at any time.
Actually it is used in race cars and airplanes for varying reasons (some of them that you mentioned). I don't drive the RV under any of those types of conditions so see no need for it.

Total waste of time and money.The only thing it will do is keep the humidity out of the tire, which is not really a problem anyway. It's just another sales gimmick!

NASCAR uses it because for race car handling it's pretty important to not only know the tire pressures but also the rate of expansion of the gas in the tire. Using plain old air they have no idea of the actual composition of that air - specifically the moisture content - so they can't accurately predict how much it will expand as the tire heats up. By using nitrogen they eliminate the moisture content, and there are charts that tell exactly how much expansion they can expect for a given temperature increase. I don't think that 1/2 psi difference will really make that much difference when we're piloting our houses down the superslab...

Before everyone gets carried away with snake oil theories, do some investigation on why aircraft tires are serviced with 100% nitrogen, especially aircraft that transit arctic locations. There are some valid arguments for using pure, dry nitrogen in tires rather than compressed air.

Wouldn't that be neat, 190 MPH around Daytona International in my Workhorse Allegro, with Nitrogen filled tires.
