Odd tire size?
I just came back from tire shopping, is the tire size 235 80 22.5 an odd size? Both tire shops I went to thought I was crazy. The only tire they found was a Michelin for $495 apiece The one shop suggested changing the size to
245 75 22.5, he said it was just a couple of mm's wider.

I don't know about the 235 size being odd, but the 245 75 22.5 tires are very common and easily found. They are frequently found on OTR truck trailers and delivery trucks.

I have Michelin 235/80/22.5 on the duals on our coach. No problem getting replacements at our local Michelin tire outlet. Our front steer tires are 275/80/22.5s and are also available.
Lead times may be long, but a $500/tire is about correct unless you take advantage of the Prevost or FMCA programs.

From what I understand that is a Michelin only European size. I just replaced my 235 80 22.5 Michelins with Goodyear 245 75 22.5 and they ride great. There is a very minor difference in size that is not even noticeable. The Goodyears were about $475 including mounting, balance and tax.

That's what the salesman said, it was a Michelin tire size. So going to the more common size shouldn't be a problem? More options in the common size

OR if you buy them for even less at a Sam's Club or Costco!

Be aware that wider tires can result in dual tire spacing problems... which can lead to overheating....(and possibly tire failure).
Never believe what a "salesman" tells you.....find a good tire tech.

I got 6 new 235/80/22.5 thru FMCA for 378 each and no problems to acquire.

I've been told the same about my 275/80R22.5's. That just means they don't happen to sell any brands that make that size ...I went to another tire dealer and got 275/80R22.5 Continentals.

I was told by several tire dealers that it was an odd size. Pretty pricey too, I found them (Michelen's) on a website called simpletire.com, pretty competitive on pricing and they had them in stock. I went a head and replaced all 6 on my dp. $3500.00 dollars.

Keep an eye on the sidewalls of your Michelin tires... mine are developing sidewall CRACKS at only 3 1/2 years of age!

The tire size may be "odd" to the dealer you visited, but they're not odd in the overall scheme of things. Ford has been installing them on the F53 22,000 lb. chassis as far back as 2010. We purchased one as a spare for our 2013 motorhome without any problems.
You need to visit a dealer that does a lot of motorhome business. The size isn't common for over the road trucks, but is quite common for motorhomes.

Yes that was the problem with the tires when I bought the unit, so I replaced all 6 tires and immediately also bought tire covers as well. Thanks for the info.
