Oil change frequency

Ford recommends changing oil every six months on E-450 chasis. I am wondering how many long term owners actually do that who, only drive it 300-4000 miles a year.

I change oil once / year in all our low annual mileage rides. Motorhome, jeep, old truck, garden tractor... Mobile 1 full synthetic in the gas engines. Do them all in my birthday month so easy to remember when to do them next. If you store the Motorhome for the winter, change it just before going into storage.

I change once a year in fall before storage. I use Amsoil synthetic 5W-20 Signature Series and an Amsoil EoA filter. During storage, I start and run the engine to full operating temp every two weeks. I use Amsoil in all vehicles ( BMW, Shelby Mustang, chevy Malibu and the riding lawn tractor....all once a year as well).

I try and change mine every 3000 miles. I use nothing but Mobil 1 oil that way if a trip or time constraints dont allow me to get to it at 3000 miles, its no big deal as we all know that mobil 1 can go longer in between changes. I do however change it before putting it away for the winter.

I do 12 month oil change for all my low miles vehicles (mowers, '67 F-100 pickup, '88 ASC McLaren Mustang, '02 Jag w/175k mi) and diesel mh (for which "low miles" is under 15k). I do not use synthetics ... dino Penzoil or Castrol for the gas engines & Rotella for the diesel. I normally drive each vehicle 30 min or so every 4-6 weeks. If I can't drive it, I don't start it. I use battery maintainers for storage longer than one month.

My manual says to change the oil every 35,000 miles, no time limit. Seems like a long time to me, haven't decide what I'll do yet.

Wow! Never heard of an oil change interval that long. My Cummins says 15k OR 12 mo, whichever comes first (same whether using synthetic or dino).

I use Motorcraft syn- blend in all 3 of our vehicles . Our daily drivers I change at 5k miles .
The Motorhome is once a year as I haven't ever done 5000 in it per year yet , close but not 5000.

Hello Dan L,

I originally signed up for IRV2 with user id: gmccash under tapatalk. Tapatalk recognizes the gmccash, but IRV2 does not and will not allow my RV info or signature.

My actual IRV2 user ID is: Ohio Snake and it does have the information on my RV there.

Im also known as Ohio Snake. I will see if tapatalk allows signature info.

For now:

My rv is:

Me neither, had an ISL 400 before, and same as you, changed it annually. I verified the DD change as 35k with the engine manufacturer by phone...he said the same thing. I don't think they have changed their maintenance intervals for RVs and are thinking commercial where they'll run 35k in a year.

I change the oil in all our gas vehicles every 3500 miles. The V10 in the motorcoach, I use Mobile 1. Would change at 6 months if mileage is not reached.

Just curious if your DD takes the 42-47 quarts of oil as described by DD. I would suppose that with that amount of oil in the engine, 25k to 50k would be be plausible. That makes sense.

I know of no oil that can go 35k ( with no more the 10 quarts utilized in an engine) unless the oil is recycled through an external filter and detergents reintroduced and the filter is specially designed for long term mileage.
