Okay the red light switch
I tried looking this up online but there were too many different answers. The switch that looks like a light-switch when turned on lights up red. My understanding its for your hot water. Question is if using propane does that get turn on or off?and if you are plugged into shore power does it get turned on or off ? thank you

In our Bounder, the red light comes on until the water heater lights on propane. It does not stay on once the water heater burner is lit. In other words, the red light goes off unless there is a problem.

Mine is similar, it's on when I'm on shore power and I just leave the switch on always. When on, it heats your water with electric and LP. When there's no shore power, just the LP heats the water.

Anytime you want the hot water heater on electric, the switch should be on. If you are running the hot water heater on propane, the switch should be off.

From the sound of it, you should turn the switch on and leave it on as long as you need hot water. When we arrive at a campground, we turn on the water heater as part of our "set up". It stays on until we pack up and hit the road.
Does your RV water heater have both propane and electric, or is it propane only?

Yes. Usually, on most RV water heaters that use both propane and 120VAC, there will be two separate water heater switches. The one you refer to uses both 12VDC(as control power) and propane for heating. Also, newer model heaters come with DSI(Direct Spark Ignition)and it's own 'Fault' light near the switch.
When hooked up to shore power, 120VAC powers the heater's element(s) though it's separate switch(on ours, this switch lights up as well). If faster water temp. recovery is needed, both switches can be activate at the same time.

Our hot water tank has both electric heat and propane heat. What we find somewhat confusing is if we want electric heat, we turn that switch on, and it glows red. If we want propane heat, we turn that switch on, it glows red until the propane heater is working, and then the light goes out. If that light is on, the propane heater is not working.
So. If the electric heat is working, the switch glows red. If the propane heater is not working, that switch glows red.
