Onan 4K stalling problem.

Recently I started my generator with the inside switch and it ran for a few minutes and all the time surging. After a couple of minutes (2-5 ??) it stalled. For whatever reason I went outside and started it from the generator switch and it stared and ran fine. I tried it again today and the same exact scenario happened. There was a couple hour difference from when I did the inside switch and the outside switch today so it can't be that it was warmed up.

Any thoughts as to why it won't run smoothly and constantly from the inside switch? It's got me baffled.

Howdy,

Thats interesting there copuld be a couple things wrong from my point of view the first one is you have a ground problem somwhere within that switch and it causing a shut down, two it could be the solinad from that switch but on the outside switch could be fine and have no ground fault or any problems not 100 percnt sure as I don't know what kind of coach you have

let it cool down all the way (overnight) and try it on the outside switch first.

most likely either the choke is not set right or the "droop" adjustment is set incorrectly. there are service manuals on-line for onan, and others i assume.

I did that but before I did it I switched the lever from "Summer" to "Winter". It's only in the 70's here in VT ????? Seems fine now. Starts fine from both sources and most importantly from the inside.

I had similar problems and played around with the summer winter adjustment I think its a little knob under the carb...and that solved the problem...it was pulsating and finally would stall...I came from Fl. and now in NH...so it definitely made a difference...start it and let it begin to pulsate...and move the little adjustment thingie while its pulsating until it stops..
