onan generator

my onan generator bge 5000 series is delivering 56v ac. I am a little low.

That needs to be fixed, or things will get ugly fast if you use it. I would take it to a onan shop for a looksie.

Both legs should be 120+v. Regulator would were I started first.

The first thing I'd do is take your volt meter to a known 120 volt source (IE: the hole in the wall in the house,, well the twin parallel slots)

That happened to me once.. Turned out to be the meter was off.. I had to re-calabrate.. Alas, lost that meter in a downsize, was good meter. Korean War vintage as I recall (Army Surplus). Very well built.

Onan generator

Thanks for the help. I have the manual and will do a couple of checks to the regulator. Open winding is still a possibility. Looks like I will need to see the Onan man.

FYI, the voltage reg on my onan failed last year. New regulator control car plus labor was 1$ RV bucks.
