Your story seems unusual. Many folks run this generators for many successful years. Mine is over 10 years old. No issues.

They carry a 3 year warranty. Your time is valuable.

in general for products I have had good luck in the past contacting investor relations directly. Sounds funny, but these non-customer service folks actually can provide good service. I worked in customer service for a few years. The statement that customer service is often "customer no service" holds true. Their goal often is to minimize cost and loss. In essence to say "no". Getting the right folks involved gets a change. Being persistent but not rude yields dividends. There are managers who can readily address your problem and request for a new unit. Tell them that it is in their advantage to bring this defective unit into service engineering to determine how to improve the design.

All I can say is Frustrating!"

Over the last 11 years the only problem we've had with our PowerTec was the stator last it's magnetism. Called PT and they told me how to reflash it. Just took a 12 V power source and touched a couple connections.

There's got to be some reason for the OP's problems as others have surmised like an alignment problem. Bolts shouldn't just loosen up like that.

Newmar(chad t) was very courteous, very sympathetic and followed up multiple times and got an onan rep involved and in the end this amounted to nothing. Onan is so huge the rep told me his sad story how he cant tell his people what to do. He also explained he is stuck in the middle because he needs things from the warranty dept each day so he can't push them to hard. No, I am not making this up. I love Newmar but I have to be honest I love them slightly less after this. They are simply not important enough to onan/cummins to have anything more than an assigned rep who has no juice. I reverted back to the supervisor of the entire ct facility. I spoke to her today. I had to pick up my coach after leaving there on Monday because I need it back but the Genny is removed and if I am lucky they will have parts in next week and fix. Pathetic, just pathetic.

I suggest asking the Onan rep to connect you with his manager. I have had success in climbing the corporate ladder to get satisfaction post purchase. In fact, in 2000 I had an Onan in our Holiday Rambler that leaked oil. After it being in the shop three times and continued to leak oil, I had to work the corporate ladder to get a final fix. In my case they replaced the engine but only after I climbed up to a VP who had the juice.

I don't think the generators these companies make, in the 5000W range, are suitable for permanent mounting in an RV. And, they are a little large to be carried in a storage compartment then placed outside for use.
