Onan Generator Question?

Hello,
I have a question about my generator in my motorhome, I have an Onan microlite 4000, Mine is in a 1996 Jayco motorhome, and is a gasoline generator. I know mine is very low hours @ about 35 hours on it, but my question is how many hours is considered high. I really don't know if a generator is considered high hours at 5000 hours or at 25000 hours, or maybe that is still not too high, I really have no idea. So how many hours do some of your generators have?

Normally it's recommended to "excercise" the generator at least 2 hours per month to keep it in good operating condition....so your 1996 with only 35 hours is way way way too low.....does it run okay? Or did it require a bunch of repair to get it to run reliably ?

Diesel generators are built for even longer life than a gasoline unit. I seriously doubt many people have ever worn out a generator by running it.....usually it's neglect and/or poor maintenance that is the root cause for most generator failures.

I believe that model does not have a oil filter and 5000 hours would be a lot I've Hurd they are deposible generators when it dies they go to the trash. You can get the manual online at Onan.

My old 5K Microlite didn't have a filter...changed oil fairly often...I sold CoachHouse with about 800 hours on it. Very dependable.

We have "only" 370hrs on our 2011. 35hrs is crazy low...how many miles on the OD?

If we are rolling down the hwy, then our genny is normally humming along too.

About 13000 miles on the odometer. When we bought it a couple years ago, it had almost 11000 miles, and 4.8 hours on the gen. We are the 2nd owners, and bought it from a friend of the family.

May I suggest you use it more, lots of places to go and things to see .......
Mine had 237 hours on it in 2011 when we bought the unit, we are somewhere in the 800 hour range now....
Service is the key!!!
