It depends on the model and year. On my '03 Adventurer, the Onan Marquis 5.5 was primed by holding the switch in the "OFF" position until the green light in the switch came on.

Thanks JBWLMS, Mine is on a 1999 Winnebago Chieftain 7000 watt( original I would suppose) with no green light. Should I hold it down or is it like my Snapper lawn mower push it 6 or 8 times? I dont want to do it wrong and crank it until my batts are dead.

Did the owner's manual say to prime it? I've had gas (Onan Marquis Gold 7000) and diesel (Onan Quiet Diesel 7500) gensets and in both cases I just hit the starter and they cranked right up. None of my owner's manuals ever said anything about priming them even after not running them for a month.
I ALWAYS put Sta-Bil in the gasser so the fuel wouldn't go bad during periods of non-use, and even after a month it would only take an extra couple of seconds of cranking for the engine to start up.

Thanks Catdave
The manual does not say to prime. Maybe I'll just crank a little more.

My last Onan I had (back in 1996) had a prime switch on the genset itself - not on the dashboard remote. The Generac I currently have is the same.
