I have a 1997 Gulf Stream with a 7.5 Genset. When I depress the slide out switch, the motor extends the generator but when the slide out stops, the motor will not. It begins a chatter or a knocking sound. When I depress the slide out switch again, the motor stops. When I depress it again the motor starts and retracts the slide out. It does the same chatter when completely retracted. Again the motor will stop when the switch is depressed.
Took it to the Onan dealer and was advised that they only work on the Genset. Contacted Gulf Stream and was advised that it was probably the motor and should take it to a Gulf stream Dealer.
I am hoping that someone else has experienced this and can shed some light on this problem. Thanks

I dont have the gen.slide outbut had a similar prob with one of my slideouts caused by the electronics adjustments. I believe that they use a current senseing adj. as opposed to limit switches, if you can find the circuit board that controls the slide out thereh should be an adjustment resister on it. You should be able to find it in your coach manual. good luck tinker

Thanks, I think you are on to something here. I will have to trace the wires (don;t have a coach manual unfortunately), but you have given me an idea as to where to start looking.

David, welcome to iRV2.com. We are glad to have you join us here and look forward to reading of your adventures and experiences. Congratulations on the Gulf Stream. I am sure you will like both it and the forum. You will find we are a group of fun lovig RVers that like to help each other where we can. Look in the front driverside compartment for the slideout controller. Make certain al connections are tight. Try adjusting so the stalling motor current will trip the controller off. I have added a short cut to the New Member section. Good luck and take care.

Hi Mike, you certainly are an early riser. Thanks for the input. I'll check out your instructions, hopefully I'll find the problem and be able to correct it. Thanks also for the welcome. I really appreciate this site.

Well, thanks to to all who contributed to helping me with my Generator slide out problem. and a special thanks to you Mike for heading me in the direction. I realised later that I actully mis-spelled the name on the controller. It is Barker, not Baker. They, I believe are the parent company of H&H manufacturing.Anyhow, called them first thing this morning, explained my problem and was advised that the contoller was probably OK. The symptoms clearly indicated that the clutch was bad in the drive motor. I ordered the motor ($130.00) and I should have it next week.

Thanks again

David

David, glad to hear that you have found the problem and that a new motor will put you back in business. Let us know how the repair goes.
