Onan Marquee 5500 Generator

Can not get generator to start, all I get is a clicking sound of the solenoid when starter button is engaged.
I have checked ground at chassis and on gen.
I have removed starter an bench checked and started runs.
The only thing I can figure is it must be the solenoid ?
Can the solenoid be tested without removing it ?
Any ideas on how to remove the solenoid ? it is in very tight quarters to get to the nuts..

Probably not your problem but...when mine started doing just the 'clicking problem', I finally disconnected from shore power and it then started right up.

Bob;

Did you check the voltage at the B+ terminal on the generator while you were trying to crank it? Sometimes a loose connection on the battery cable or ground can show full voltage until it's put under load, then the voltage drops to the point the solenoid just clicks.

Just something to check.

Be sure to check both sides of the solenoid for 12v. It may be pulling in, but may not be making contact on both sides.

Check/clean the actual connection at the starter. Mine did the same at one time, when I put a meter probe against the starter post there was a spark and the starter worked. Cleaned and tightened and it worked fine...

80% of the time it is low voltage.
