Thanks. Unfortunatly Wix is not that readilly available either and the one parts house here that carries it want $12 and does not stock it. Guess I will make the trek to PPL and get the filter twice a year. The Onan filter is only $8 there but its a drive.

I use Amsoil 10W-40 and Napa Gold filters for the my 5.5 Onan generator. Here are some Onan #'s for a 5.5GMFA11578H you can cross reference.

Air filter: #0140-2379
Oil filter: #0122-0645
Fuel filter: #0149-2341

Sorry, but I don't have the Napa Gold filter number. You could probably cross reference on the Napa web site.

Jcthrone, we happened to be passing thorugh Miami one evening on vacation and passed right by the Cummins dealer, stopped there overnight and the next morning bought four filters, so I'm set for a couple of years.

Same here. If there is an issue with coolant....remember to change your anti-freeze and radiator cap on your onan every 2-3 years. Just did this along with a coolant system flush.

I run mobil 1 and a napa brand filter. The filters are a little over 6 bucks. I change it every 100 hours and at times it runs 100 hours straight. We are at 1600 hours already and never a problem even in 100 degree plus heat.

Maybe he meant that it would run at 90% of the previous temperature.

Example: 190 -(190 * .10) = 171

He meant something, but not 90% cooler. I suspect he meant 10% cooler.

To my thinking, if you have a 190*F thermostat in your engine, synthetic oil will not change that operating temperature. And then, there is this old thread that involved a lot or research: Synthetic lubricants-aren't.
