Onan parts guy at the Tampa show told me to head to the hardware store. Standard Pipe thread plug.

How about a consensus on use of "Fumoto Drain Valves"... what's the experiences of the forum on them ?

The experiences of the OP makes me wonder if that dealer wasn't trying to drum up a lil extra business...

When I did my first oil change on the 8.1, after engine replacement, my son and I found the engine oil drain plug barely finger tight ! And of course the oil filter had been installed sooooooo over tightened that it badly distorted the filter body getting it off. Quick check on the paperwork package from the demented chevy dealer that replaced the engine revealed they "disavowed" any or all responsibility for the repair work !!! Can you imagine that ! Chaps my lips every month when their service dept has the gall to send me a "Preferred Customer Bulletin", they even sent me a Christmas Card ! Talk about one office NOT communicating with the other !!!

Hope we all took note of the Review website address and will use it liberally !

I 've got one on my 8.1 now and had one on my F53 460 and am going to get one for the 4.7 in my Jeep Commander. The only thing is that if the oil is cold you can cut the lawn before it all drains out. If you should decide to get one , get the one with the nipple so you can put a small hose on it.

I learned a trick years ago working on VW's. If a bolt is stuck instead of using a pry bar and twisting something off make sure the wrench is on good (six point best) and use a hammer. If you can use an impact that is about the same

For drain plugs with material different from the drain pan housing it is always a good idea to put a little dab of anti-seize lubricant on the threads before reinserting and tightening. Helps prevent the problem of bolt seizure due to oxidation, corrosion, etc.

So can the fellows who have had their oil drain plug out confirm that the oil drain plug on an Onan HDKAK 1046M would be a 3/8-18 NPT plug, equating to being replaced by a No Spill Systems - FEMCO part # 40-17218-02 N quick drain plug?

In a previous life I owned and operated 2 auto/truck repair garages. It was my experience that the most common reason for oil filters sticking is not over tightening, but rather not lubricating the rubber gasket with a film of oil before installing it. If no lubricant is applied the rubber literally bakes to the metal flange.

I hear stories all the time about installers over tightening oil filters. If the filter isn't crushed or distorted it's more likely it didn't get lubricated when it was installed. Remember the installer would have to apply nearly as much force to get it that tight as you did to remove it. In most cases the filter would have been crushed or otherwise distorted by applying that much pressure.

I just replaced my drain plug with a fumoto type. Existing plug in my QD8000-1046 HDKAK Spec K is 1/4" NPT with 18TPI. To install the QuickValve (Fumoto) requires ADP710 (1/4NPT to 12.5mm) and F-107 (12.5mm) valve. They do not make a Fumoto valve for 1/4-18 NPT. I ordered the F-107S (Short nipple for 3/8"ID tubing). The adapter also lowers it as the existing plug is recessed below the bottom of the generator. Haven't used it you but will make oil changes dramatically easier

I have the same generator and mine is 1/4 NPT with 18 TPI. The 3/8" has the same 18TPI. Cheapest way to verify if it is a 1/4"NPT - get the 1/4NPT plug in the brass plumbing section of Lowes or Home Depot and try it. Much cheaper than getting another from Onan.
