I have an Onan HGJAB generator that is leaking oil. The generator runs fine, but the leakage is becoming a nuisance to keep clean. The leak appears to be coming from the lower crankshaft oil seal. The cooling fan blows oil up onto the deck by the cylinder shroud. Is there and oil additive that will slow down or stop the leak temporarily until I can get the leak permenantly repaired? I know there are many on the market, but need some help on which one to use.
Thanks, bob.o

Bob,I don't know of anything to stop the oil. I wouldn't recommed putting anything in the crankcase of a generator beside oil. I had a 5.5 Onan leaking oil and the place I took it to thought it was the lower seal. After repair it still leaked. I took it to a Cummins Onan shop and the fella looked at it and said "I know whats wrong". It turned out to be the gasket between the two halves was folded over on assembling at the factory. I called Onan and told them. They got in touch with the cummins place. Then they reimburst me my money. They agreed it was their fault.

Hi Bob,
I have the same generator as you and I also had the same problem. I took it to Onan for servicing and at first they thought it was a valve cover gasket that was leaking - a rather simple fix - but, it turned out to be much more serious and required that the entire generator be removed from the coach. The problem, a leaking oil pan gasket. Total cost of repair, CDN$1062.00. Ouch! This unit had 250 hours on it when the leak first appeared. I am also meticulous about the maintenance of the unit.

I wonder how many other HGJAB owners are experiencing oil leakage?
