Last week we purchased a 2002 NationalSeabreeze 30ft, we had all the inspections done and everything checked out good. This weekend we
took the motorhome out for it's first trip so
we could get used to everything. Previous to this trip we had seen the generator running
several times with no problems, it started well and ran everything with no problems. After arriving at our camping spot we triedstarting the generator and it wasn't wanting to start. We checked the batteries and found that they were low. We then plugged in the coach
and tried the generator the next day. It started better but there was only 4 - 6 volts ac. Today we replaced the batteries, the generator starts wonderfully but still only has a low output of 4 to 6 volts ac. We've tried resetting the breakers. and checked the fuse. I had read somewhere that there might be a reset button but we haven't found anything like this. We are looking for any ideas on what else we could try. I've lost track of the number of shops that I've called today and no one works on Generac generators, or they have in the past and they are no longer willing to do so. This is frustrating to say the least.

Thanks for your help,

Juli

Juli, sorry to hear you are starting out with problems. In any case welcome to iRV2.

Post some more information, such as:
Generator make and model?
Where you are measuring your voltage?
It AC (house power) or DC (battery power)?
Do you have 12 volt batteries or 6 volt batteries

Hi Ken,

It's a Generac 55G Primepact
We are measuring the voltage at the output side of the breaker as well as at the service outlet.
The voltage is consistent with both breakers.
It is AC power
We have 2 6v Trojan 105's.

Thanks for any help you may be able to offer.

Juli

The power output to the inside plugs is 4 to 6 volts when it should be 120 volts? You may be reading a floating or residual voltage. Make sure that the breakers on the generator are not tripped. Turn them completely off and then back on.

Also, does your coach have an automatic transfer switch to power the coach when the generator is running? Or do you have to plug the coach power cord into the generator output?
If it has a transfer swith, it may not be transfering.

The batteries have nothing to do with the 120 volt output, all they do is crank the generator to start it.

Thanks for your help, I think we've found someone to help us out so we'll see how it goes.
