I have a 4 door Norcold refrigerator with an ice maker. The ice maker over fills and the extra water goes to the bottom of the freezer and forms a glacier. What is the remedy?

As far as I know, the water fill cycle is strictly based on time, rather than on a sensor that detects when it reaches a certain level. The clock works in the ice maker controller opens the water valve (via electric solenoid) for a fixed time and that's the amount of water you get. Maybe the solenoid or the valve itself is sticking?

Disconnect the wiring on the water valve on the back side of the ref. If you still get over filling then it is definitely the valve that will need replacing. If the overfilling problem stops then you have a problem in the ice maker module.

Had an education this week on icemakers.I'd posted earlier on a problem with mine on a Norcold 12cu.ft. Replaced the solenoid valve and it still leaked, not as bad. Pulled the whoe unit and the plastic/teflon coating on the mold where the actual ice is formed was deteriorated badly. Lots of missing spots inside and out. Brought the whole thing to an appiance parts store where I bought the valve. 1st comment was does the fridge get shut down for long periods of time as in weeks or months. Well, yes it does. Seems to be a problem with the big heat differences especially in the South. Never had a problem with a icemaker in our home fridge/freezers. Same temp all the time. Anyway, I now have a new "Whirlpool" icemaker which I will install tomorrow. $108 with tax. Also comes with a new ice tray and the valve that I bought 2 week ago for $34. Now I have 2 spare solenoid valves. Still 1 of the cheaper fixes I've seen on any RV I've owned. By the way PPL parts wanted $185 for what they said was the same part.
Thanks again RV Wizard. I'll post the results but might take a couple of days to see the real result.

If you open the freezer and look at the end of the icemaker facing you do you see the instructions to lift the bale to turn icemaker off?
If you do, remove that cover, just pry off, you will see a screw adjustment with +/- and instuctions on which way to turn to decrease volume to icemaker. You should also find information tucked into a little plastic pouch on the inside of the cover.

Appreciate your comments. On this fridge the icemaker is mounted crossways of that freezer compartment. About an inch between the end and the freezer wall. Did learn something from you though and I do have a right angle screwdriver, flat and phillips so I now have that problem solved also if it arises. We're learning, We're learning.
