Great system and superior workmanship on the install. I looked at a similar system from Continental 2 or 3 years ago but it wasnt available to the general public at the time - aimed more at fleet customers. I would definitely look at something like this when updating cameras. Thanks for sharing!

Here's a short video of the camera system view while driving down a highway. I'll be running this by the manufacturer to get their opinion of the remaining distortion between the two side cameras and the front facing one. Overall I really enjoy using it to verify what may be in my blind spot.

No updates because there's been no problem with it at all. I went on a 2500+ mile journey this summer - by myself - and was sure glad to have it when driving in some of the tight lanes and spaces I got into along the way.

I got a bug on the front camera and the clarity took a hit until I cleaned it off. Otherwise, it just works. I like the full time 360 degree dash cam feature. Just remember, 32GB is the largest flash drive it will handle. Well, with the firmware version that I have.

I've been watching this type of system for a while and glad I came across this post.
Great job and real clear explanation of the install. the only thing I couldn't see was your video, it was blank.

Just a thought ( I know never happy, have to have icing with the cake) do you think you could mount the cameras further back and see the toad as well? Just think of when you pull back in when changing lanes and want to make sure you are clear. I might be dreaming or it might require different camera setup etc (something like an extra camera set up on the rear of the toad that you could connect ( and disconnect the existing rear camera) when hooking up the toad?
Thanks again for your great posting, I'll be considering this system as well.

Chris

Look at the new Toyota for a similar system. There is on my new 2018 Sienna.

I seriously considered one of these systems. I emailed them twice with questions and never received a reply at all. Based on this I've not bought their system, and don't expect to. If their post-sale performance is as bad as their pre-sale, this is not a company I would want to do business with.

Im resurrecting an old thread because I just purchased a new 3 camera system and am awaiting its delivery. Someone pointed towards this thread and now Im rethinking my purchase.

Is there any downside to this 360 system compared to more traditional cameras? The system I bought from Rear View Safety has a standard backup camera and two side cameras that display on a 9 quad view monitor.

BonS -

I asked this question on another Owleye 360 thread. I have one sitting on my table and aside from a small problem that one of the camera wires can't be inserted into the cable, it seemed of reasonable quality. The instructions were a bit lean on technical details so I got in touch with my contact at Wireless Prime.

Here is the question I asked:
The wiring for the CPU shows VBAT+, ACC, and ground. Please explain what is meant by VBAT+ and ACC as they are not universal terms, and, if my guess is correct and it means “battery 12v” and “accessory switched 12v” can you explain why two 12v sources are used?
And her answer:
You are correct about the ACC, you need to connect it to an ACC fuse in the car because there are elements of the Owleye that you do not want to run 24/7. You want them to come on when the car comes on.
As for the VBAT+ that is a fuse that needs to be connected to a point of constant power because there are certain settings in the DVR that if it doesn't have constant power will be forgotten and reset (the same as a basic car stereo). And you will not be able to correct those resets.
So I asked:
Due to significant draws on both 12v systems (chassis and house) I usually store the coach with all power cut off. In other words, there is no 12v continuously available. How complex is it to reprogram the features that are lost when the device loses power, and how long will it hold its program when 12v power is lost from the VBAT+ connection?
Her reply:
I have no way of knowing that. I can reach out to the manufacturers to see what they have to say. It will take a few days as they are located overseas but I hope to get back to you by early next week.
So far (a week later) she has not had a reply. Have you cut power to your system yet? If so, what did you lose in terms of settings? At this point I'm leaning towards returning it because I don't want to do the installation and find out it loses calibration or something difficult to restore.

Usually these Keep-alive memory circuits draw very little power while the unit is turned off. This can be measured with an inexpensive VOM meter. It seems to me that you could easily install a small separate 12v battery to use in this situation. If the off power draw is small enough (as in a clock) the small battery would last very long, perhaps a year or more. If the draw is too high for that and you are storing outdoors, you could use a small solar panel to keep the small battery charged when in storage. By using this small battery to keep the memory alive, you could still shut down your coach batteries when in storage.
