Tried to look up my ID# to make sure I had it right and it tells me I'm not in the system. Emailed PA to see if they could help, no response.
Any suggestions?
If you have a letter in front of the number, DON'T use it. Use only the numbers.

I was wondering about PA as well. Thanks for all the great info. I did poke around on the website and click through to the local campgrounds we would be likely to use. I found that most don't offer the discount on weekends and some exclude all of July/August. Might not be a fit for everyone if they can't sneak away during the week. I'm still looking at it though, after the discount the site rates are very good.

Compubahn,

If you use it only a couple time when the regular price is $40 and the PA price is $20, you get your return on investment back pretty quick. After that it is money in the pocket. However, you did your homework and if you don't travel near any PA CG's it may not be worth it to you. And the PA CG's vary considerably in their restrictions, especially those that have heavy tourist seasons, and those that have limited months that they can be open, like in the Northeast. We have also stayed at some that have no restrictions at all, so the savings are even greater. I'm retired (er retarded) so we can travel anytime.

Thank you. We are in the northeast so maybe that explains all the restrictions. I own a business so I can't get away as far or as often as I would like. Looking forward to doing lots of camping when we are retired like you :-)

I'll probably give PA a shot anyway and see if we can make it fit for us.

FYI - The PA website has a trip routing program that also shows PA campgrounds along your route. Handy if you are planning a long trip.

i think there is no point in buying something you are not likely to use - despite the fact that others like it, use it, etc.

Remember, if it wasn't for the restrictions, then campgrounds would not sign up. It has to be a win for the Rver and the campground owner. The purpose is to fill sites that would not otherwise be filled. It makes no sense for them to give a discount on a holiday weekend. Just be glad for the discounts that we do get and don't worry about the ones we don't. We have used them at least 100 times and saved a bundle.

What I do is just before checking into a PA park I buy the membership. Then it is worth it.

Wayne:
I have seen you mention Passport America several times on iRV2 threads so it would appear that you use your membership frequently. I went on their WEB site to see what was available in Ohio and within 200 miles from my home. What I did notice that they listed Ohio State Parks which is odd to me. Am I correct to assume that PA has some arrangement with State Parks to give 50% discounts to its members?

Thanks in advance for your input!

It sure looks that way. I wish other states would follow suit. It might be some type of vendor thing as many of these parks are put out for vendor bid.

I've been pretty disappointed in PA so far as there are so many time/date/must reserve in advance/etc. restrictions at member campgrounds that it has been difficult to use. I'll probably get my money back over the course of the year but I doubt I'll renew.

If it were not for the ability of the campground owner to block out certain times they figure they will be full, there would be no campground discount clubs. This obvious business factor must be understood and dealt with. You are not going to save money every time, but I sure like to save money when I can. Be thankful for what you get and don't worry about the times you can't.
