Yes, like six months out of the year. I understand the need to limit access but in many PA campgrounds it seems like access is more of a 'window' than the other way around.

It is up to the campground owner to decide what dates they block out. They have to balance having empty sites against having a site rented at half price when they could rent it for full price. Each campground is different and we have called during a blocked period and asked for and received the discount. This works best the same day of stay. The owner looks out and sees empty spaces and realizes that he isn't going to fill them. Half helps him with fixed costs. The exception are for them to set and us to work around. Just the way it is. They have saved us thousands of dollars over the years.

Yes, that is an accurate description of PA. I'm just saying that I've found a 10% discount that is valid at most campgrounds all the time with no excuses to be more valuable to me overall than a 50% discount that is available 'sometimes.' But with some effort you could probably get your money's worth out of PA, I've just found it petty tiring so far. As always YMMV.

The PA discounts are all posted on their website and can be checked on their free phone app in about a minute. You can usually get a link to RVparkreviews.com and get others opinions. We are probably getting close to 200 PA discounts now, so that is probalby close to $3,000 savings now. We also have there Good Sam 10% discount. There is also quite a bit of overlap between the two. (smart owners belong to both). I get a kick out of campers bragging about their 10% discount at check in and then I get the 50%.

We just went on a 2-month trip. At the beginning of the trip I couldn't find any P.A. CGs due to the restrictions. I thought that maybe it wasn't going to be worth it after all. By the time we came home, we were able to use P.A. numerous times, so the cost has now been paid plus some, and anything we get by the way of discounts in the future is "free money".

I let my PA membership lapse then if I will be traveling in locations where I will be most likely to use the membership I sign up again. I only sign up for the year if I will save the total cost of the membership that calendar year. It depends upon where you will be traveling. We get the most benefit out west. However we did get 4 nights during March in Marathon Key several years ago. That was a real deal. The keys are very expensive in the winter months.
