As for the other observations/suggestions, please note:

I have been using their card for years. Thought I had it figured out.

Fueled at the truck pumps. Had to "see cashier" and scan discount card and prepay a guesstimated amount. Hassle #1

Pumped fuel and went back to the counter for receipt. Hassle #2

Upon reviewing receipt I questioned the price discrepancy. Was told I had used the credit card. Duh.....

Desk clerk then disappeared into the office while I waited a good 5 minutes.

She returned and stated she had called the national help desk and Jennifer told her the only discount was off of the cash or credit card price and I was wrong about paying the cash price while using a credit card.

Tonight I called the customer assistance line, explained the situation and he quoted from his manual...... There is no discount other than the .03. Period.

So,after using the card without this policy I can only assume the policy has changed after 2 calls to the national office. I won't be going through this hassle in the future. I'll let "moneybags" in California take the abuse.

I agree, we use the PFJ Good Sam and get 8cents a gallon off on diesel and never go inside for nothing.

Just for clarity sake, planocat is not talking about the RV Plus card. He is talking about the Frequent Fueler card, which is now the My Rewards card.

If you have activated the pump start feature and you're fueling at a participating PFJ location that allows it, you should not have to go inside before you start fueling at the truck pumps. When you're finished fueling, you pull forward, go inside and you should receive your discount off of the CASH price. The following is from PFJ's My Rewards website (please note #5 and the * below)

Truck Diesel Lanes Only:

1. Insert only your rewards card at the pump to turn on the pump. Do not insert any other card such as a credit or debit card at the pump or the transaction will fail
2. Select fuel type.
3. Pump fuel - When finished fueling, hang up nozzle and pull forward.
4. Go inside and see cashier for payment
5. Even if paying with credit/debit card still receive cash price and $.03 discount*

There are some exceptions to the above depending on what state you're fueling in, and if the station is a participating PFJ location, and not a dealer.

@planocat - If you don't mind, could you tell us which PFJ location you used?

I could be mistaken, but it seems like more stations are charging more for using a credit card? Kinda sucks when you are on the lookout for a gas station while pulling your trailer along the interstate and you squeeze into a station only to find out you have to pay more because of your CC. We always use our CC for everything because we get 3% cash back. Haven't carried any cash in years.....

How do those discount cards work? What stations are they accepted at? Would be nice to get it on top of our Fred Meyers discount.

Be glad, be very very glad that you don't have to pay Canadian gas prices. Currently around 50% higher, at least where we are. Makes any US gas price look like a d*mn good deal. Anytime we cross the border for shopping or camping, we try and take a nearly empty tank across the border.

VISA has a credit card that gives 3 cents back on every dollar for fuel which equates to 11 cents or more a gallon.

I refuse to give anyone access directly to our checking account (we don't have debit cards for the same reason) and the limit is $1000 when paying by check. Used that up in less that two weeks going to Fresno, then Phoenix and back to WA.

I still use the PJ rvpluscard for def and will fill up there when doing that, but have had an issue verytime I've used the card - never have gotten the discount...
there must be a reason they don't print a receipt

I look for a deal when I can, but using the PenFed card seems to be the easiest. It gives 5% off of fuel or 20 cents a gallon on $4.00 a gallon fuel. It still works with other discounts. The downside is that you must pay at the pump. Here in California, the only stations where it won't work is AM/PM and Costco. You also don't have to leave your card with the parolee working the FJ desk.

I don't see the draw of Flying J stations. There prices out west are usually a few cents a gallon more than other nearby stations and the few times I used them, I found the guy ahead of me went in to do his/her weekly grocery shopping while leaving their RV blocking the pump.

GasBuddy is a great tool/APP that will find the cheapest fuel in any town. I don't always use the cheapest, but it gives you an idea what prices are in certain areas so that you don't go to the one station that is hosing people.

Same as Don. We use the PenFed Cash Rewards Visa for 5% back on all fuel purchases at the pump for an immediate 5% off the next statement ...not the PenFed Plantinum Rewards which give 5 points for fuel with a threshold that has to be met before being able to collect the reward.

Seldom do we use PFJ anymore. We also use GasBuddy to scope out prices in an area.

Since we only have a 35-footer, we will use any standard diesel pump (not the truck lanes) even if it looks tight. We will unhook the toad if we have to in able to maneuver out but seldom is it necessary.

Don't mind at all. Flying J #477 in Anna, TX 75409. I fully understand some locations may have managers who aren't aware of the rules or procedures. I get that. What is most concerning is the policy of higher costs for using a credit card was confirmed by national "help" desk twice by two different corporate employees.

Last month I used their fuel stops in Arkansas without this policy. Something has changed.

Leave tomorrow for our annual trip to Canada and in the past I have planned this trip around PFJ locations as they are easy in/outs while pulling a boat. No mas PFJ.

I've never had a problem when using their card. I'm glad I'm sitting still now as gas in the Detroit area is as high as $4.39 right now. "OH" and they're not gouging.

Use a debit card. That price is the same as cash. Don't we all carry one of those?
