Police Baton - safety

does anyone carry a collapsible police baton for safety?

i've thought about storing one or two in the mv, you can wear em on your belt too

seems like a good device, looks like it's easy to use even with arthritis, just in case

any issues you can think of?

Arthritis could cause a problem as the "asp" needs to be extended by a strong sweeping-snapping motion and retracted by jamming the end onto a hard surface.
Training is advised.

FWIW It is also a weapon. designed as such. A tire knocker is a tool. Designed and used as one. Those of us who are a bit unstable with age also need a good stout walking stick. Don't want us falling over, do you? ;-)

Mini bats given out at the Louisville Slugger factory work very well. We have a number of them. We also use them for fish killers when bringing in large salmon. Canadian customs has NO problem with them.

After 30 yeas in Law Enforcement I'll say that training is critical with any defense tool. The ASP style baton is a semi effective defense tool, but pretty much useless without training. We're not talking one and done type training, you need to learn the effective strike points and retention techniques and practice the techniques under the stress of practice combating.

In LE and military we have a saying....

"Train what we do... so we do what we train!!!"

The dry chem extinguisher has good range. They can't breath, they can't see and are easily identifiable. One in every MH. No license required and customs friendly everywhere.
Always use 911 first.

Although I can and do carry a pistol everywhere in the US. I am a firm believer in wasp spray. I also have a Blackthorn (stout cane) which is the size of a riot stick. I makes a great weapon and looks OK for an old man to carry. If I wasn't trained with one I'd stick with the wasp spray. Many states label a baton (bear spray too) as a weapon.
We have been RVing about 15 years and over 160,000 miles. I have never had a situation where I thought of using any of the above.

That baton could be construed to be an illegal club in some states. Carrying one in the RV is one thing, but wearing one on a belt could be a problem.

For example, Texas Penal Code 46.01
"Club" means an instrument that is specially designed, made, or adapted for the purpose of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by striking a person with the instrument.

We don't go to unsafe places anymore, at least not intentionally. Not being alone is good. Daytime better than night. Country rather than city. Hate crowds but there is some safety there. I could go on....
I wouldn't carry an obvious weapon like a police baton.

Issues?

You mean like somebody who DOESN'T have arthritis taking it away from you and beating you senseless with it?




Nothing like providing a weapon to someone who doesn't have / can't afford one of their own.
