Portable generator

Has anyone ever used a small portable generator to keep batteries charged and lighting while dry camping with a diesel pusher.

Yes this is quite common. You might get better answers with a question that is not a yes/no answer.

Do you have any particular concerns? Like capacity or run time, etc?

I carry a Honda 2000. It runs about 5 hours on a gallon of gas. My diesel 7.5KW uses about 1/2 to 3/4 gallon per hour. A little math tells me about $.80 a gallon for the Honda and $2-3 an hour for the diesel. That's figuring $4.00 a gallon for each.

My diesel has 1,000 hours on it so it gets used but the little Honda has almost 700 in two years.

I carry two Jerry cans on a rack on my Jeep. I also run the Honda dry before traveling with it In a compartment.

I have a 1 KW Kipor gen that I used in the TC. I carry it in the MH for watchig TV and topping up the the batteries. If I need AC or the batteries need a full charge I use the 7.5 KW. I spent 12 days at the Balloon Fiesta and and used 3 gallons of gas.
