Portable ice maker
My wife loves a full glass of ice to chill her Dr. Pepper yet we do not have a built-in ice maker or a fridge that produces ice in sufficient quantities.
Has anyone used a portable ice maker? I searched the Forum but found no previous posts.
Thanks,
Steve

The friends we travel with had one of the small Dometic ice makers and it worked great. The only down side is you have to manually add water to it, but it would make a first batch of ice in less than half hour.

Amazon.com for the win!

We tried our machine for the first time last weekend and were very happy with it. First ice in six minutes after turning it on with water in it.
My son's had the same brand and has been happy with his.

I had two of them, Emerson brand, not that it matters as they are made in the same Chinese factory and branded with different names.
Here is the downside.
Takes up too much room in the RV for the amount of ice it produces. The ice cubes are hollow and melt very fast thus watering down your drink more so than cooling it. As time goes on, you will notice it takes longer and longer to make ice. That's a sign it's on the way to the appliance graveyard. But for $119 I got about two years of use from each.

Wow that's strange...I searched and found tons of references.
Here's what I posted before on this subject. See post #26.

Howdy!
We been through two Igloo portable ice makers and neither one lasted more than a year. We like them but want one that last longer than that.

Same here, but from walmart.com. Got it next day for $90 free shipping
I also purchased the 2 year replacement warranty for $8, so not too concerned if it dies in a year.

Too big, too much work for the benefit received for the way we travel. If I have to fiddle and make ice just to store it in the freezer, may as well just go get a small bag of ice every couple of days. Put some in the freezer some in a small cooler. Beer doesn’t need ice, neither does whiskey, or wine.

Just for clarification. The portable ice makers make ice. The do not store ice. If left in makers bin it will melt and be recreated into more ice. It needs to be removed and used or stored.

Portable ice maker
Our MADP came with a dedicated ice maker with storage built in. We love it, makes ice very fast at around 30 minutes per batch and is handy to always have ice.
