Power off with generator on

We just recently did two things; number one we got a new house battery installed and number two I had the air conditioning on and I realized that I left the air conditioning button to on instead of turning it off and now we get the shore power but we do not get any power with the generator
Something is tripped somewhere. I can't tell what it could be. Can anyone help me with this?

There is usually one or two breakers mounted on the generator. Sometimes they are on the back side and are hard to see. Check the manual on your generator for location.

I think you are saying that you unplugged from shore power with the load of the air conditioner still present. This will sometimes cause the contacts of the transfer switch to arc and weld together.

When the generator is started it is unable to cause the transfer switch to "switch" and allow the generator to provide power to the coach.

You may have to locate and repair or replace the transfer switch or just give it a good rap with a hammer.

My first thought too. I tripped mine first time plugging into shore power. My new rig did not have an auto transfer switch. I kept resetting them the wrong direction until I figured out I had it backwards: facepalm:

Two suspects when you get "Works on shore but not on generator"

ONE: as noted above (This is #1 by the way) The breakers on the generator, Often they will trip if you engage generator with A/C on.

Two: If you hot switched (Started generator while plugged into shore power) you may have fried (Welded) your transfer switch relays.

Sometiems A good wack with a rubber mallet will un-weld them.. Sometimes, not. In either case replacement indicated.

Well we found the breaker and flipped the switch. That didn't make any difference so we brought it to Camper world and $166 later it was fixed because they flipped the switch and it worked this time.

I guess you should have flicked the switch twice.

Did you flip it the wrong way? I did that at first. It said on so I flipped it that way and the off showed on the breaker. Took about 5 times to register that when on was displyednit was on.... That was not the direction I was supposed to flip it.

Yes I have worked as an electrician and I had not opened my beer yet. Just my brain getting older and slower.

Resetting the circuit breakers is the very first item to check. Why would Camper world charge you $166 to do that?

Because they can. Probably the cost to pull in into the bay.

Most places I work with would not charge for that service. I tried to get 4 new tires from my shop. I have come cupping and they talked me into letting them balance and pair the tires where they thought it would get me a few more years. It drives like new and they did notncharge me. They were replacing the rear brakes and made the adjustments at no charge. Guess whomwill. E putting tires on my rig when the time comes. Even with a little larger price I save over all with a cople more years on my current setup. Mthere is hard tomfind honesty these days and i like to reward it!
