PowerGear Jacks

Hi everyone, I have a 07 NRV Dolphin LX W24 and my question is about the PowerGear levelers. I've read in the manual that it's not supposed to be used as a jack to change tires or any operation that would have them(levelers)lift the chassis. If it's used this way, then it would invalidate the factory warranty. When I had a flat tire, the responding ERS mechanic asked if he could use the levelers, I said no. Then having a LOF on a Workhorse SC, I've seen the technician use it and I told him not to. He told me that they do that all the time. Does anyone know it this is a prevalent practice or I'm just reading the manual literally? Any thoughts about this matter?

I think you will find it's a CYA thing. If you get killed changing a tire because the jacks failed and the MH fell on you, your family can't sue them because they told you not to do it. I use mine to change the tires, work on the wheels, all the time. But I always also use Jack Stands, and my Power Gear jacks are out of warranty any way!

Agree with Jerry do it all the time. If it was meant that way they would have to put a limiter on them so when leveling the wheels would not come off the ground.

I will second Jerry's motion. All jack manuals I have read have the same disclaimer. As a former mechanic, this is a safety thing. You will see the same disclaimer on a mechanics hydraulic jack used specifically for changing tires. You are supposed to use jack stands as soon as you can push them under the axle. You never want to have your safety dependant on anything hydraulic. Any failure of any part would be an instant, and I do mean instant drop of your load. Bad news for the coach and anything under it.

JerryForwood, John Wayne & ScbaPro - thanks a bunch for the enlightenment. It's been in the back of my mind about this a "CYA" thing just like those warnings in the windshield sunscreens to remove them before driving off. So I guess service shops do really use them if it's convenient.
