Powertech Generator Problem

I thought I had a transfer switch problem, but when I checked voltages in the switch I found that the voltage coming from the generator was only 45 volts on both legs. Does this sound like a generator problem?

Any suggestions would be appreciated as it is a holiday weekend and no services available.

Indeed it is. Depending upon the model (you didn't post it) it could be a variety of different failures such as a bad stator, shorted rotor, but most likely the voltage regulator. That being said, an hours worth of troubleshooting with a meter will confirm/deny this before throwing parts at it.

How handy are you with a multimeter?

Thanks for your response. It is a 2008 DSDP 4317 and has the 10KW generator. I am pretty handy and do have a volt-ohm meter. Would love to be able to confirm what the problem is.

I plan to be where the coach is about 2 PM PDT, today.

I find the trouble shooting flow chart in my Powertech manual to be valuable in quick isolation of the problem.

It reduces the guessing and is separated into various symptom analysis sections.

I copied a manual from PowerTech web site so I have it on my computer in addition to one at the rig.
