Pre-purchase RV Inspections....

I posted this question on another thread and realized that it was much broader in scope so I thought I'd pose it here.

I'm considering two different Class A coaches in two different states. This is going to be the largest purchase we make next to our home. And we couldn't have possibly made an informed decision about that without the help of a good home inspection.

I got to wondering if there was a business that performed on site comprehensive inspections just like a good home inspection. And would then provide a report and any repair recommendations to the perspective owner.

Has anyone heard or such a thing? It seems like a real no-brainer opportunity to me.

There are people who do that. You can either inquire through the dealer or do a google search with the State as part of the search request. "Texas RV Inspectors" as an example.

Yes, there are such services though you may have to hire two inspectors; one for the chassis and another for the coach. You may also want to check out my post from last year and how an inspection saved me from making a bad purchase.

Thanks Ron. That thread was very helpful. I think it's absolutely imperative to have as complete an inspection as can be had prior to committing something like $100k.

They don't have too cost a fortune. My chassis inspection was $350 and coach was around $400. Worth the piece of mind...

Definitely ask if they do a chassis inspection. The few I spoke with only did the coach.

When we needed the chassis inspection in Florida I was unable to find any of the larger mechanical shops that would do it in a reasonable time at cost. I eventually found a small independent mobile diesel mechanic who could do the job and he was fantastic.

I eventually purchased a rig out here in the Vancouver BC area. The local Spartan shop wanted $450 for an inspection but 50 miles south, in Mount Vernon, WA, Valley Freightliner (also Cummins and Spartan shop) did it for $150. Check around.
