Preferred places to fuel a gasser?

Lot's of discussion about fueling diesel rigs. Flying J and Pilot only seem to have programs aimed at diesel fuel.

I have a 37' gasser + toad. Any way to look for better than average places to fuel?

I have a gasser and I prefer Flying J to fuel up.

My Good Sam membership at Flying J gives me a few cents per gallon discount. Mighty good incentive!

large branded stations with many long angled pass thru lanes - a motorcoach with a rear fill is probably the most difficult since you must pass your whole rig thru the lane just to get your rear end in line with the pump...
since I deliver these from the factory I can tell you that a side fill is much more desireable as it puts the fill much closer to the pump, though the salespeople at dealerships will try to 'sell' you that the rear fill allows you access from a pump on either side, which you may find too late to be not very true.

Many of the Flying J, Loves and Pilots have RV lanes - love those. If a general gas station I try to find ones with at least 2 islands in the aisle so can get the back of the rv to the rear pump and not stick out much from front pump! Also watch for opportunities to use a SAMs Club ( or Costco etc) as always a good price.

Gas fuel

I like the Pilot Flying J for the discount, although some are hard to get into because they are not well designed for RV's. I also use Costco because of the fuel discount on their card and in many cases a lower starting price. I also us the Gas Buddy app on my phone. It has prices and a map of the station location as well.

Pilot FJ has these fuel categories on the same page:

Unleaded Midgrade Super Propane Diesel Pump DEF* Intended Bio Blend

I also use https://www.gasbuddy.com/

Sometimes I use the dedicated FJ RV islands, and but also use the car pumps for easier access. I sometimes pass on an opportunity, but try hard not to let the level get so low that I am desperate for fuel. The trick, where ever you enter, is to make an immediate assessment of the entry & especially exit route - before you commit to anything. With our car trailer we are 52 Ft. Long and look for end spaces where the gas pump is on the passenger side.

not true. we fuel our 40' gasser primarily at FJ and sometimes Pilot. the FJ/Pilot RV Plus charge card gets us $.05 per/gal discount. Good Sam membership required for that.

This is my main fueling stops.

When I map my trips I also map my fuel stops and most of them are at FJ.

If theres a FJ in route and i'm at a 1/2 tank i'll stop for fuel, walk the dogs and myself. When i don't see any FJ or pilot on their app i start looking for someplace i can get in an out of is the main concern. I have stopped only to go again because of access.

Every time our trip ends 2 miles from home is a BJ's gas and always wait for the last lane to open and fill up ready for the next trip. 10c off with their card on an already lower than most.If we're at a CG for awhile i scout out the local stations for easy in n out. Out is usually more challenging.

once i just wasn't sure the toad would clear so in 5min unhooked pulled to a clear place and hooked back up. Better safe than sorry.

I agree that you need more space for a rear fill, but I don't agree that the side fill is better. I have owned three rear fill and two side fill. I can't tell you the number of times I have set and waited for a pump to come open on the correct side of the motorhome, while driving a sidefill. When towing four down turning around is usually not a option. The worst motornhome was a 1972 Open Road. It had two tanks. One on each side. They were 25 gallons apiece. My wife had to hold the hose while I turned around to fill the other side. The good news, It was 22 ft long and no towed, so it was easy to turn around.

Agree with using Pilot/Flying J Travel Centers. Driving from Washington State to Arizona, I already have PFJ TC on the way marked where I could stop for gas. And using the RV Plus Card (by PFJ) is the most advantageous since you get the 6 cent credit per gallon (GS Lifetime Member) and there's no limit on the card.

When we had 37' gasser with jeep in tow. Fuel it anywhere that is cheap and we could get in/out. Penfed credit card gets you 5% cash off each monthly statement when swiped at the pump.

With Gassers Flying J does have a loyality program.. Not sure what it is just now as it changes from time to time.

Wal-Mart: Murphy's USA.. If you go into the store, depending on the time of year, and fill up a GIFT CARD at either the Customer Service desk or checkout.... Then you stick the card in the pump. You get either 3 or 10 cents off (That's the part that depends, normally it is 3, 10 cents is a seasonal special).

They have another card that gets you 15% but that turns out not to be that good a deal for most.. Still check it out.

Many Supermarkets, INCLUDING Kroger and Bi-Lo, offer "Fuel Points" on their loyality card. Bi-LO's operatesd like this

Every 50 I spend on Food and suppiles.. I get 5 Cents off on up to 20 gallons of Gasoline...

Kroger is I think 10 cents per HUNDRED (Same discount but in 10 cent steps)... In both cases you can build points for a few months (Then they expire unused) and there is a 20 gallon limit.

SHELL has a "Family Rewards" Many places you can spend money, INCLUDING BI-LO (Cards are linked) and you can then burn the points at a SHELL station, same basic arrangement.

Some credit cards have Cash back on fuel as well.
