problem with outer storage compartment

Hi. We have a 2003 Chinook. The large outer storage compartment door handle has broken. The door is closed and we are unable to open it. A piece of the handle mechanism has broken off. We're looking for assistance in how to get this door open, and how to fix or replace the handle or door. Since Chinook is no longer in business, there's no manufacturer to contact. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm sure Chinook didn't make the latch, they purchased it from a supplier. If you use Google Images you may find a matching latch and it's supplier. If you post a photo, we can help you. Until we see the broken latch, it's a bit hard to suggest how to get it open.

Can you take a picture of what you have, or find a similar one online ? It would help in getting suggestions.

Sorry for posting what was quite similar to BFlinn181's post, which for whatever reason I did not even see when I wrote my post.

Hey folks, thanks for replying.

It's on a Chevy chassis.

I looked online for a picture similar to what we have. I couldn't find anything similar looking under rv compartment handles. Below are two pictures, the one on the right is similar to what we have. The compartments are like drawers, and the handles are like what are on the tailgate of a pickup. The "lock" simply prevents the handle from being pulled up to release the drawer. The drawer is not locked. A piece of the mechanism inside/under the handle has broken, preventing it's proper functioning.

Assuming you have one of these 060-0900 Recessed Mount Plunger Bolt | TriMark Corporation
at each side of your compartment door, your best way of attacking the problem is to try to get at each plunger bolt and pop it out of the bracket or whatever it is that holds each end closed.

Here's a couple pics of the actual handle. Hubby's holding a quarter to give an idea of the size of the handle. Just our luck these drawer-style exterior storage compartments are rather unusual.
