Problems Getting Motorhome to go in Reverse

!st time taking the motorhome out it didn't want to go in reverse. Drove it a few miles and then it would. Got home and could smell something hot. Now won't go in reverse again. Wear to start trouble shooting?

Check the tranny fluid level. Then try to find record of when the tranny was last serviced. That's a starting point.

It would also help us help you if you tell us what kind of transmission it is. You can add details about you and your RV in your signature that will appear at the bottom of each post.

Is the auto park light staying on or going out?

Transmission is a 4L80E. The park light goes out when shifted to reverse. It goes forward just fine. If we drive it for a few miles it will go into reverse. Half hour later same thing won't move in reverse again. We can smell brakes are hot or burning in the rear wheels.

It sounds like your parking brake is failing to release. The way they are built, they do give more stopping power in reverse than forward. If your RV is equipped with the auto park brake, it could take a pro to check it out.

You haven't mentioned which chassis you have, but if you search the forum using the search box at top right for "Autopark brake" you'll find quite a bit of info. Here's a link to the resident expert on the system:
