I have to replace my 30 pound propane tank, it is out of date. It barely fits into its compartment and replacing it will not be cheap.

The wife and I really only expect to spend weekends in the fall/winter camping in our 21 foot Toyota Dolphin.

I am considering just using a common 20 pounder to replace the thirty. Is there any problem with this?

Sounds like a good idea to me if it will fit. I am not aware of any differences in tanks for RV's.
Those Toyota's are one tough rig. I see a lot of them around here in Calif. Amazing for a 4 cylinder engine!

I would have thought it would have had a ASME (permanatly mounted) tank and not a DOT (portable) tank. I guess I still learn something every day

. I do not see any reall problem with puting in a smalller tank except the fact that it will have to be refilled sooner. Just make sure it is securely fastend.

Aren't these 30# tanks available at places such as Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart for around $40 - $50? I think some even have an exchange service where you can leave the empty tank and get a newer already filled one. Might cost a few $$$ more for a non-OPD tank but could be worth looking into.
