Propane Filler Valve

Yesterday I set out to refill my 100# auxiliary tank. I shut the valves on both the aux tank and coach tank, but when I disconnected the hose at the aux tank, propane continued to back flow back out the hose.
I'm thinking I may have a bad filler valve on the coach tank.
I tried again this morning and tapped the filler valve with a hammer, but it wouldn't close.
Fortunately it's not really cold here in Washington and my thought is to wait for the coach tank to go run out then replace the filler valve.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Did you try disconnecting at the RV tank first? Perhaps there is a check valve that is held open when a connection is made at the RV fill valve. With no check valve in the fill hose, disconnecting it at the auxiliary tank would allow continuous flow out of the RV tank if left connected.

I've done this many time before without a need to disconnect at the coach tank, but yes, I tried that too.

Had that happen yesterday getting the rig filled, first time that has ever happened. They reconnected the fill line and gave the tank a quick shot. Disconnected and all was fine, must have been some dirt in the check valve.

keep those protective covers screwed on.
