Most of the so called "spring water" is right out of the water system and then filtered. You don't know how good the filter is either. One of the biggest lies ever perpetrated on the public.

Better watch out when in Canada. I've seen many dumps that only had one water source. Those like that did NOT have a hose attached, only the spigot, and it was usually a fair distance from the dump itself. Gonna' get real thirsty if you're looking for a separate water source like the US. I expect the double source of water you see in US locations is driven by uniform health department codes than anything. I've also seen my share of idiots rinsing the stinky slinky at the POTABLE water source, so no guarantee that this source will always be clean.

How close to the sewer system is your house water source? I would bet most dump sites use the same water source, but I agree at the dump station???? But even at the RV park the last guy rinsed his poo hose with your fresh water source. just carry a small squirt bottle with purex mix.

I agree - don't use the Cabela's water to drink.

Our Cabela's dump station was free for 2 or 3 years. Now it's $5 per dump. It has a credit card enabled control box at the dump site.

Regards, Jerry

The photograph shown is quite specific it states:

" DANGER not to be used for drinking water or domestic purposes".

Many of the Cabelas that I have been to do not have signs. Also the electronic payment systems are inoperable.

And where do you think the Cabela's gets the non-potable water? Call a well driller and tell him you only want a well that produces polluted water? Or maybe call the city/town and ask that non-potable water be delivered to the store? Come on folks. It's all good water. It may be contaminated because some idiot contaminated the faucet when washing out a stinky slinky or did something else equally stupid, but the water is fine. It's your choice to decide to use it or not.

That's like saying all hoses are the same, they carry water, so it doesn't matter what type hose you use for your water connection.

Or even worse - what if they plumbed it all with cheap lead pipe instead of something meant for drinking purposes? You gonna let your kids/grandkids drink from it then?

Exactly. People use that hose to rinse out their sewer hose. It's contaminated.

Like I said, the choice is yours. Just because a sign someone put up doesn't make it pure, or a sign saying it's non-potable means it is polluted. Again, THE CHOICE IS YOURS.

Unless you are in a place with two separate water supply systems it is almost certain that the water is potable but the circumstances make it suspect so they put up a CYA sign.
If I really need to fill up there, I carry bleach in a spray bottle and give the faucet a good soaking including up the spout before hooking up. Then let the hose run before starting the fill. In eleven years RVing of getting water from all sorts of places in 30-something countries and using our tank water for drinking, we have never had a health problem remotely attributable to water quality. That isn't the same as having lots of awful cups of tea or coffee because of the water taste, but that never made us sick either.

I won't reinforce national stereotypes, but if you RV in countries where black water cassettes are the norm, you will see people empty them and then stick the spout right up over the faucet to get some rinse water, or it there is a hose, it will get poked right down into the whole cassette to ensure a good clean. Then they will use that hose to fill their tank. Or the next one to come along will. They don't die as a result either. In fact they most common place for this practice is in USA RV parks with hookups. Where do people rinse out their dump hoses when they pack up. Yes, from the same faucet they just unhooked their nice white potable water hoses from

Thank you Tony Lee. I'm afraid a great number of people think a sign never lies and they fully deserve to be protected from cradle to grave.

Actually, if I am thinking of filling from a single spigot, I'm much more comfortable if the water source has a hose attached rather than just the spigot. If there is a hose, it's probably contaminated due to actions from the inevitable idiots. At that type of setup I take the installed hose off with the set of Channel Locks I carry and place my clean hose on the spigot. When done, things go back exactly as I found it for the next guy to do as he likes.
