Range/Hood Outside Vent

Does anyone make an outside vent, for the range and microwave, that does not have to be locked close when not in use? Out vent is over 8 feet off the ground and must be unlatched when you want to use it.
I have thought about replacing the flap with a mesh screen but not sure if it would be a problem.

I have seen the screens for all the other vents like furnace and hot water but have not seen on for stove/microwave. Mine is a pain to keep close and the little slide clips usually wiggle down and the vent opens while traveling. Your idea sounds good. I would just be concerned if you would hear whistling of the air flowing in while traveling.

Neither the one on our '06 Itasca nor on the current coach have to be locked when not in use. Both were/are Sharp microwave/convections and had a flap like a home dryer vent. Both of them were hooded type and there never was a problem with wind noise, etc on the road.

I suspect you could install a push/pull lever to open/close the outside vent door.

On my Southwind, the slide switch to turn the hood blower on does this via a short control cable.

A screen is only a partial solution, since the vent is also a path for hot or cold air.

We used to leave the door unlatched on the one coach we owned that had an outside vent. Once in awhile when traveling it would flap and make some noise, but mostly it wasn't a problem. As on yours, the latch was small and up high. I made a pole so I could reach it from the ground, but it was still awkward so we started to simply leave it unlatched. Once in awhile we got some spray in there if it was really windy & rainy.

We later traded that coach and the new one vented inside. Outside venting is nice on a convection oven when you bake, but otherwise inside venting is an OK solution We decided that losing the outside vent door was a reasonable trade-off overall.

We have a Fantastic Fan in front/above the microwave. Our microwave vents up right into the fan. Works good. We had a TT with the micro vented outside. I took to leaving it unlatched and one day the flapper departed the TT somewhere north of Dallas.
