we were excercising our genset going down the road -- the gen was turned on from the rc7gs panel -- when we went to turn it off the
display was blank on the rc7 and none of the led's lit

in checking, the inverter (RV2012) seems to be OK based upon the LED on the inverter itself -- but I can't get it to invert...was told that if
the inverter was off before the panel failed that it would stay off regardless of the switch on the inverter

so, in calling xantrex, they say that the 2012 and the rc7gs rarely fail (of course our 2012 failed 4 months ago due to the overheat
problem that CC fixed) and that it is probably the cable

we're going to get or build a data cable to try but wanted to know if anyone else has had these symptoms and waht was the root cause

Did you check the flat cable between the RC7 and the Inverter, including the connectors themselves? Sometimes the little pins in the connectors can get out of alignment and can cause similar problems to yours. Likewise that small cable can get damaged real easy due to the light weight and lack of heavy insulation.

I've already removed, visually checked and re-inserted the connector at BOTH the invertor and the RC7 panel several times, also doesn't look like the cable is broken (at the invertor end which seems the most exposed);

My next step is to find some 6 conductor cable and 6 conductor RJ11 plugs and rig a test cable to try so that I can either confirm or rule out the cable as the problem...unfortunately between tryign to find these and the holidays it'll probably be a few weeks before I can do anything.

FWIW. The cable ends on my RC7 and Xantrex 3012 are flipped 180ยบ to each other, #1 on one end is #6 on the other. Got this info from Xantrex, you might want to check to confirm for yours.

WOW MY RC7/GS if fixed! Thank You Argosy!!!!
After buying two RC7GS remotes off the net that I thought were broken I saw your post. I cut the phone cord I was using and flopped the wires (yellow to black, red to green) Boom! Instant on and everything works! Shame on Xantrex for not telling anyone about this.
