Fleetwood installed a cheap rear vision monitor in my coach, and it is starting to go out...it goes blank when driving over bumps. I've traced it to the on/off switch. I suppose I could try my best to avoid the bumps , but I now see it as an opportunity to replace it with a nice color system.
I imagine the color system will also require new camera, but the question I have is will this be a "Plug & Play" installation, or will it require new cable?
I'm also toying with the idea of adding a set of the side mounted camera's, the type that come standard on some new models that activate with turn signals. To those of you that have them, are they worth the money?
Thanks!
Craig

Unless you are going to purchase a color camera that sells for over $500 and retro fit it to the rear of your coach you are wasting your money. The picture is not as sharp as a decent B&W camera. The only thing the side cameras are good for is for cars in your blind spot. But with the mirrors on most MH's today there is no blind spot. So if you want another toy rig them up but it won't be easy.

More than likely if you change brands/models, you will have to buy a different connector wire, and run it under the MH and thru the back cap and up to the new camera. These wires are quite pricy. In my previous MH, the wire broke or a rat ate thru it and I had to replace the wire. Could not use the same channel and the previous wire its non-splicable. If you change the wire, pull the back tail lights off the MH and it will give you an idea of how to run your new wire. s/Toby

The only blind spot I seem to have is when I'm trying negotiate a turn at night...I can't see my toad well enough to tell if it's going to clear the curbs and etc. Will the side cameras help at all with that?

Craig, I'm having the same problem with my Discovery. On mine it seems to be a loose wire at the rear of the monitor. I'll let you know when I drop it this weekend. Good luck, Mike

My problem is with the on/off switch. If I touch it while traveling, the screen goes blank. If I push it on & off half a dozen times, it might come back on. It then goes blank again when I hit the next bump or pothole.

If you can - take the unit apart and check the switch. If it is the switch - short it out so that the unit comes on with the key.

On ours the power switch appears to be stuck in the "on" position. When pushed the switch does not pop out to the "off" position. So, for now, we just let the ignition switch turn it on and off.

Someone referred me to Tim Lazaroe of RVCams.com
Tim is an RV owner himself. He has been very helpful and has offered me several different ways to achieve what I'm looking for. I highly recommend him!
