I just purchased one to install there. My reasoning is that it will give me enough time to get out and not die if my fridge (like so many others) malfunctions and catches fire in the middle of the night. Seems like a reasonable tack to take for those of us who are not {ready/willing/able} to replace their fridge with a safer unit.

I would definitely be talking to Norcold about assisting with the replacement. Anything insurance does not cover should be covered by them. I suspect your insurance company will go after them as well. Start by being civil with them and work on something. If all else fails call your attorney.
