The driver and passenger seats in my RV are looking a bit ratty, so I e-mailed Flexsteel to figure out how much it would cost to replace the leather(?) or whatever the seat covers are made of. I found the tags for the seats, e-mailed Flexsteel with the info from the tags, and Flexsteel e-mailed me back and said it was $375-ish for each seat to replace the seat covers. I thought that was a bit pricey, but the thing that "concerned" me though is that she said that these seat covers are "normally replaced by a professional upholsterer" or works to that effect.

So has anyone replaced the seat covers on these Flexsteel seats themselves after having received replacements from FlexSteel? How big a job is it to replace these covers?

I haven't changed the seat covers in the rv. We have looked at doing it to our Buick Encore. The prices for the leather are all over the board. From 250 to 600 per seat. So the price might not be out of line.

Mine are not Flexsteel but I had the leather co-pilot seat cushion recovered locally in Tyler Texas for $430. I thought that was quite reasonable, and it is a perfect match both in material and stitching.

Car seat covers are usually installed using hog rings and hog ring pliers, not really difficult. Just cut the old ones with side cutters and re-install in the same way.

I am in the process of having my recliner, sofa and captains chairs recovered by a fabric/furniture store in Dallas. Estimate for all is about $2,500 with an ultraleather fabric.

I'm the original poster.

So I guess the price for the slipcovers aren't bad. I guess what I am really interested in now is if anyone has any experience actually getting these slipcovers on without ruining them! I gave the seats a cursory look and it doesn't look like an easy job. I will check out the link above though about those pliers.

Have you investigated repairing them? I have no personal experience, but Google suggests near miracles are possible.

No, I hadn't. I didn't know such a thing existed. I'll consider it now.

Anyone else done this?

I Googled and found a local mobile repair guy that does this type of work. The pictures on his website are equally surprising. I'll report back with before and after if I end up going with him. Thanks for the info. I'm really curious as to how this will work out now : )

To follow up on this thread, per tederonne's good advice, I contact a local husband and wife team that run what looks like a franchised company called Fibrenew. They came out to my RV and gave me a quote.

As I stated above, Flexsteel wants $375 for the driver, $395 for the Passenger plus tax and shipping. The guy from Fibrenew who came out told me he could recover both of my seats with his own sourced material for $800 total, installed.

I'm inclined to use the Flexsteel slip covers, but am concerned about future wear as the ones I have are in pretty poor shape and are only 4 years old. I just asked the Fibrenew guy for pictures of his previous work and details about the material he plans on using.

I'll follow up as I go along in case anyone else is interested. Or maybe I'm just writing to myself at this point : )

I recently replaced both captains chairs skin covers from flex steel using factory replacements. I upgraded the fabric from a vinyl type to ultra leather type. The skins fit exactly and look great. The job requires two items, hog rings & pliers to install them plus fabric spray adhesive to secure the seat fabrics. The first seat took about five hours to remove and replace the skins. The second seat took about three hours since I knew what to do. You should probably take pictures as you remove the old skins so you can refer back to them when installing the new skins. I also added a footrest to the passenger seat which required separating the seat from the stand, only four bolts.
I used my small work bench to hold the seat stand while I worked on the skins. The back was the hardest piece to pull on but it slid over the foam without to much trouble. This was my first attempt at recovering a seat and I'm very pleased with the results. If you have the time and room to work, it's not a bad job. I'll post some pictures for review.
