Hi all,

Well, we bought our first MH. A 2007 Bay Star by Newmar. We have not yet taken our first trip with it (this weekend) but so far, so good. The only gripe I have thus far is the front window curtains. They are the pleated type and a real pain to retract and they, honestly, don't look very good when they are extended. They seem to be a little too long and drag along the dash so the pleats kind of buckle and just don't look good.

Wondering if we can replace these with a simple fabric curtain and, if so, can we use the existing track? If you've done this, where would you find them? I did a little web search and didn't find much beyond Camping World.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

Hi Joanne,

The pleated curtains are pretty standard in many coaches. A few thoughts before you throw them out. Mine drag slightly in a few places, but not enough to buckle. The manufactures make them long enough to touch to keep out any prying eyes that may be inclined to look in in the middle of the night. You may be able to adjust the length by checking the screws for tightness that hold the track to the top of the window frame.

Second, the pleated curtains are good for storing in a small space. Regular curtains may be quite full but would be a problem to store safely out of the way in the corner of the windshield.

There are some available that are on a motorized track, but they tend to be pricey. Hang on, I'm sure you will get some other ideas shortly.

I thought they were there to protect the general public from accidental random, unintentional glimpses of people who shouldn't be seen without a lot of clothing, me included.

Hi JoAnne,
Go here to see what a company called Motor Coach Designs (MCD) can do for you. I have many of their products. I am satisfied with them and would buy from them again.

Ours, too, are a bit too long & make the drapes buckle, especially as the track goes around the windshield corners. I've been contemplating taking them off & re-doing the hem but I don't know what that all would involve.

I'm interested in if anyone else has tried to tailor their front curtains with any success. "?"

Yes, Yes!! absolutely trim the pleated curtains. Ours looked horrible when we got the coach-- much too long, especially over the instrument panel.

We put them in place (extended position) and made pencil marks and then connected the dots. Cindy held them up while I trimmed them with a sharp pair of sissors. They look great now and they don't unravil either. My friends wife did the same thing with their new Dutch Star, same great results.

They look beautiful now

Have at it!!

I have also trimmed my fron curtains. I did the same this Max did. I'm very satisfied with the result.
