I'm newly retired and I'm looking for campgrounds in Southern California near some good fresh water fishing. I would appreciate any recommendations.

You have lots of choices. Lake Skinner in Temecula is a very good RV park and a productive fishing spot. Lake Jennings in El Cajon is another. Santee Lakes. Those are the local ones I have been to and camped at.
