Roadside assistance/towing through insurance

Our full coverage insurance has roadside assistance and towing. I read the policy which states they will tow 15 miles or to nearest appropriate and approve repair facility. I called the insurance company to confirm if the nearest appropriate and approved facility is beyond 15 miles, say 100 miles, will the coach still be delivered. She confirmed, and at no charge. Is there, then, a need for coach net?

Yes. Not only miles, but knowledge and understanding of RV needs vs a car tow.

Your auto tow company probably has no idea how to tow 30,000 pounds of motorhome. It is wise to have a company such as CoachNet that specializes in towing heavy machinery

Our FULL TIME Insurance company specialized in coverages for RVs......be they MH, TT, FW , TC etc.
Policy had road side assistance/tow included. for our FW and truck.

If truck broke down 2 tow trucks would be sent.one for truck and one to tow FW

Yes we have a 5th wheel and truck.......but ins. company 'specialized' in coverage for FT RVrs and all the various RVs

None of the major RV Roadside Assistance companies (Coach Net, Good Sam, or AAA and others) own their own tow trucks. Each basically has listings of available towing services in areas and effectively formed a network of providers. All used the same trucks and have agreements with them.

There have been numerous posts on which one is best. Which one is worse. And many people touting how good or bad of service they had.

I think it is important that when people are broke down they make sure when you call in to provide length and weight of the coach.

I've been towed 3 times ( I might be an expert on getting towed). Once in a Class C and twice in a Class A. In all 3 cases the drive line had to be removed. All 3 times were within 100 miles of home, which is the limit I am allowed for towing distance. I had the coach towed to a location of my choice.

If your insurance company states they will tow your coach to the nearest qualified RV repair shop I would try and verify this talking to several different consumer representatives with that company. Call in several times and talk to different people asking the same question and documenting the conversations, if possible get names of the people you talk to. If after doing this you are satisfied with the results you can choose to use.

I used to use towing rider on my insurance. The primary difference was that it was towing reimbursement, meaning I had to pay and file a claim to get paid back. With a road service, they pay for the tow up front.

Like Paul stated above..........using your auto for roadside, they are not there 24/7.........and it is up to you to do all the leg work and find someone to tow your equipment, pay out of pocket, then submit for reimbursement. It happened to me "Once"...........really felt all alone on the side of the road.........going in circle's...........
It is really a wonderful piece of mind when I back out of the garage to travel knowing that I have a "800" number to call 24/7 and the person that answers the phone has the experience to send the correct equipment based on my info.
I have not had to use them(knock-knock) but have read a ton on here about all the different type's of roadside assistance possibility's..........Coachnets 800 number is what I "Have in my wallet"
The one time I broke down, I found a person that would change out the engine's air compressor where I broke down if I would travel to a Cummins shop(150 miles) and get all the parts needed........My auto/Coach insurance did state in very small print I found that they would cover "All expenses that occurred at the break down site"........sent the receipt in and they cut me a check for the labor that I was charged to make the repair. I still carry roadside through my insurance also............for $5.00/year.
